A simpler path to mobile integration
The new era of mobile devices offers the tantalizing prospect of anytime/anywhere computing, with a quality of user experience undreamed of in the old mobile era. It also brings a dark side: massive increases in the complexity of the IT infrastructure and a breakdown in information security. Teamstudio® has authored a series of white papers to help you plan a simpler path to mobile integration. Register for white paper download.

The new era of enterprise mobile
Driven by the consumer’s love affair with the mobile touch screen, the previously- stable world of enterprise mobile is transitioning into a new era of much greater device diversity and integration complexity. In the first white paper in the series, we explain how and why we are moving to a multiplatform mobile world. In this world, the IT department will face substantial user pressure to support at least three different OS platforms, including the BlackBerry® platform which dominates today. The Mobilization Pyramid
In this first white paper in the series we present a new conceptual framework for managing this complexity: the Mobilization Pyramid. Similar in concept to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the Mobilization Pyramid allows us to structure and prioritize our mobilization initiatives according to where the business needs are most immediate and urgent.

Reducing complexity at 3 levels
The Mobilization Pyramid has 3 levels. At its base sits mobile device management. First you need to ensure that your devices are connected securely to the enterprise network. Once these needs are dealt with we can move on to the next level up, which is all about the rapid deployment of off-the-shelf mobile applications to meet user needs. This allows us the breathing space to deal with the top level of the pyramid: the development of custom applications which can give the business a competitive advantage. At each of the levels in the pyramid, complexity is increasing. This is leading to a new “cat’s cradle of complexity” which if unchecked will overwhelm the IT department.
In the next three white papers in the series, we’ll look in more depth at some of the key issues at each level of the Mobilization Pyramid:
- Level 1: Streamlining mobile device management
We introduce the 4 core principles of MDM, including a background briefing on mobile usage policies and mobile security best practices
- Level 2: Simplifying the mobile user experience in the enterprise
We show how the popularity of mobile apps is driven by user pressure to simplify and enhance the mobile user experience, and how the adoption of HTML5 enables a similar step forward in enterprise mobile apps
- Level 3: Building industrial-strength mobile apps
For mission-critical applications at the top of the pyramid, we look at a new approach to create reliable apps with their own local data stores that can update via mobile sync. These apps work well even if the wireless data signal is weak . Instead of introducing new development platforms to create these synchronizing apps, we show you how to extend the platforms and skills that you’ve already got
